I took Brooklyn for her 4 month checkup on Tuesday. She is thriving! She is so happy, except for when she's mad. And usually she's only mad when she's hungry, or gassy from just eating. So mostly she's quite a pleasant baby!
Stats:
- Weight: 15 lb. 13 oz. (or since she's eaten since then, you could call it an even 16 pounds!), which puts her in the 89th percentile for weight - meaning she's quite the large baby for her age.
- Height: 24.5 inches long - 58th percentile (just above average)
- Head: 39cm. For how large her body is, apparently she has a small head. It's only in the 5th percentile.
Brooklyn is HUGE! We actually have nicknamed her "fat baby", but I am not sure we'll admit this when she's older, cause it's kinda mean. But it's oh so true in her case. I mean, c'mon! Look at this!
| "Oh no you di-in't just call me fat!" |
She seems to be going through a growth spurt, so we'll see if she suddenly grows longer here in the next couple days.
As for sleep, she's so much better than her big sis was at this age! Brooklyn usually goes to sleep around 8pm, wakes up for her final feeding at 9pm, then sleeps until 4am. I don't have to rock her, sing to her, shush her, any of that. She just goes to sleep, I put her in the crib (not even a pacifier in the mouth), and she sleeps. All night. Abigail doesn't even sleep that well & she's 2.5 years old! I love this baby so much for the simple fact that she allows me a full night's rest!
Brooklyn still struggles quite a bit with reflux. She spits up a ton, which actually probably plays into her weight gain, because she spits up & then is immediately hungry again, then over eats. It's a viscious cycle, and also the reason that I have 0.00 ounces of reserve milk supply. The pediatrician said to go ahead and start her on solid foods. Because #1 she's hungry all the time & cereal will help her stay full longer. And #2 cereal helps solidify what is in her stomach & will help things stay down better, which means less spitting up, which means she'll feel satisifed after her meals & hopefully not over-feed herself quite as much.
I bought a jumper for her but so far she's not quite sure about it. She is incredibly strong though, maybe this comes with the territory when you're the size of a 9 month old, but she can easily roll over from back to stomach or stomach to back. She can also sit straight up from a laying down position. Frankly, even I can't do that without pushing myself up with my arms.
Her favorite thing in the whole wide world lately is bath time. She has learned she can make HUGE splashes (have I mentioned she's too big for her infant tub?), so she gets really excited an splashes a bunch & then stops completely still & laughs hysterically, looking over at me like, "hey! check me out, I'm the funniest baby ever!"
Otherwise she's doing typical baby stuff. She grabs her toys, loves holding her hands, loves sucking on her hands!
The one thing she's incredibly advanced at? Well, besides growing, is teething! Ugh! It's too darn early kid!! But the doc said she felt 2 teeth coming in, which are her incisors, which are brutal! So that explains why she's been screaming at us more than usual lately. Poor kid.
One final note, since I've been back at work for a little over a month now, and everyone keeps asking how it is when you have 2 kids & are a working mom. Well let me just say that it's freakin HARD! I feel like I'm really lacking in my wifely & motherly duties lately. Some days Abby goes to daycare looking half like an orphan. Laundry gets washed & then sits forever in the basket ready to be put away until we just end up pulling our clean clothes straight from the basket, and my cat only gets pet when I finally lay down in bed & she walks up on me & demands it. Sigh. Not enough hours in the day. Also, leaving the 2nd child to go to work isn't easier than it was when I left the first. I just feel like I'm missing both arms now instead of 1. But, it is what it is and I'm very grateful for the time I get with my girls and don't take any moment for granted!
