With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you "Be of good cheer"
It's the most wonderful time of the year
It's the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It's the hap- happiest season of all
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
I love, love, love the holiday season. Probably much more than your average adult. I think by next year, Abby & I will probably be on equal ground when it comes to our excitement for Christmas, so really you can think of it as I'm like a 4 year old when it comes to Christmas. And you know what? I'm totally ok with that. It's a magical time of year.
This weekend was a typical holiday season weekend. I visited friends, baked a lot of cookies, and other Christmas treats, and took Abby downtown to see the city all decorated for Christmas.
Brooklyn started crawling & the next day started walking. She's not taking steps independently yet, but she can walk with a baby walker. I'm SOOO tempted to have Santa deliver her Christmas gift early, but I'm using all my will power I can muster & holding it for 15 more days...
After a day full of baking & sampling Christmas goodies, Abby got creative. Yes, she is wearing a Santa's Helper shirt paired perfectly with bikini bottoms. She'd been watching some National Geographic type show that day & was telling me she was a "scuba diver saving sick seals" Notice the scuba mask & candy cane flippers? Such imagination!
On Sunday, I took Abigail & Brooklyn on a bus ride to Downtown Seattle. Abby's been asking me for months to go on a bus ride. Finally I thought of a good bus ride-worthy outing. Both girls were terrific on the bus!
So strange that anyone is so excited to ride a bus, but it seemed to be everything Abigail hoped it would be.
We met Nana & Dadoo downtown and went to a very popular Gingerbread Village display - it was a great theme this year for Abigail! It was all based on Disney films. This one was Little Mermaid. The village was amazing! People are so talented! Abby's favorite gingerbread house was the Alice in Wonderland castle - because it had a giant dragon on top.
After the gingerbread village, we headed to the city's carousel ride & Abby got 2 rides. She was pretty much the happiest 3 year old in Seattle at that point. Then we went to Mexico for lunch...
Service was pretty slow, so we needed some entertainment. What to do when you're bored? Feed the baby limes & laugh at her puckered face! Then do it to her again & again, make sure to point as you laugh in her face. Yes, I'm a nice mom. But even I have my "sour" moments when I've been getting screamed at off & on for 36 hours straight by a teething baby. All in good fun.
Brooklyn turned 10 months old on Sunday. I cannot believe she'll be 1 year in 2 months! Abigail is already planning Brooklyn's birthday party. She said she's going to make Brooklyn a cake & then Brooklyn will share it with her. Ha!
Holly Haffy Holmes has been up to much mischief lately. She left Abby a note that told her to plant some seeds (tic tacs). The next day, the seeds grew into cookies! Abby's been telling anyone who will listen about that. She had Brandon write Holly a note requesting more cookies, but Holly doesn't seem to respond well to requests.
Baby Jesus was teething, so Holly needed to hold him & help him feel better.
Tonight is gingerbread decorating girl's night. Abby's invited! My girlfiriends, Abby & I are all dressing in our Christmas pj's, bringing bulk candy, an appetizer & wine, and going to attempt to decorate some decent looking gingerbread houses. I'm assuming since Abby is helping me, mine will look like Charlie Brown's version, but I'm really looking forward to tonight! I even packed some sparking cider for Abigail to drink so she can feel like a big girl. Hey...nothing like encouraging drinking at an early age, like I said...I'm a nice and responsible mom ;)
