Friday, it was so nice out that I could actually put Abby in a skirt without her freezing. This series of pictures pretty much sums up her attitude these days.

Pout - Abby give mommy a smile! - Pout
It's mid-May, which for most of the country means it's warm spring or possibly even hints of summer weather. But for Seattle, things are just getting started. I'm embarassed to say, that our yard has been poorly neglected. Not only has it been neglected this year, but the year before Abby was very young and I didn't have her out much. Then, the year before that I was pregnant & told to wear a hazmat suit if I was going to be digging in the yard. So yeah...things were beyond bad. Our grass is full of moss and weeds, and brown spots. My husband fought a good fight last year trying to get things back in shape. He lost the battle...but he's not prepared to surrender just yet. He hired out a lawn service to help get our grass back in shape. So...pardon the state of the lawn in the pictures...my job, however, was a much easier fix. Well maybe not "easy" in the labor-aspect of it. But at least I can see instant results! I spent a total of $150 (after tax LOL!) at Lowe's and bought plants, dirt, mulch. In 1 weekend my project was complete! It has completely transformed the yard!! I'm so proud! Here's the before & after:

I removed two evergreen shrubs, NOT easy. My back is very sore! But one of them was yellow, and even though it was healthy, it looked dead. The other one was just ugly and took up a ton of space. It's kind of like painting a room. Sure, it might have been fine before (if I'd just kept up on weeding & pruning), but completely re-doing it has made it feel like my own.
Abby's a bit torn when it comes to gardening. Sometimes she loves it, and is content to sit and dig in the dirt while I do the real work. But sometimes, she just hugs my neck & yells and screams until I give up and give her 100% of my attention. For that reason, we had my parents watch her inside while we did the yard work outside. It's so nice to have built-in babysitters! :)
That afternoon, Abby got to play outside at her cousin's house. I got the cutest picture of them on the swing! We're so excited because they recently moved, and now we only live about 5 minutes away! Hello playdates and free babysitting! :) Also, you'll note Brynn in the background. Big, bad pitbull who LOVES Abby, and whom Abby LOVES LOVES LOVES right back! I know pitbulls get a bad rap, but seriously...I have yet to meet a mean one. I've only seen them be loving and patient and dosile. And I truly believe those dogs are amazing, it's just really bad owners that = bad dogs. Enough with the soap box. But Abby does want a dog. BAD. Good thing she hasn't quite grasped the concept of begging for one yet.
On Sunday it was raining cats & dogs, so we went to Abby's 2nd favorite place on earth, the Children's Museum. She got SO excited that she literally stopped in the middle of the room, squealed, did a jig and then ran on. It was too cute! You may be wondering, if this awesome fun place is #2, what would be Abby's #1 most favorite place on earth!? Drum roll please....COSTCO. Seriously. The kid LOVES COSTCO. She takes after her grandparents in that way, I guess.
| She's concentrating really hard - a bit overwhelmed driving a tractor for the first time. |
