Sleep Training: Night 4

Naps: Naps were not very good at all yesterday. She only slept for 30-40 minutes at a time. As a result, she ended up taking a 1.5 hour nap at 4:30pm - OOPS! So we knew she probably wouldn't be super sleepy at  bedtime.

Routine: As we suspected, when 7:45pm came around, we did our routine. The result? 40 minutes later I came back downstairs...with Abigail in tow. She was wide awake. We tried again at 9pm - did the entire routine over, book reading included. It took 30 minutes, but she did go to sleep. I got really frustrated because she was crying & wouldn't even take her pacifier. We're pretty sure she's constipated, so we're going to try giving her water/juice today & hopefully that helps.

Sleep & Night Wakings: She slept for 5 hours, then woke up, again crying like she was in pain. I gave her some tylenol finally & that helped her.

The positives:
  • She woke up 6 times last night, an improvement from 9 the night before.
  • Even though she was crying & something was obviously bothering her, it didn't take 2 hours of trying to get her to go back to sleep. Last night was an improvement & I'm happy to see any progress
  • It was night 4! That means we're almost halfway thru this 10 day period. We've made it 4 nights without giving up! :)
  • She actually woke up a couple times last night & put herself back to sleep! That was a huge step in the right direction, in my opinion
  • OK so this might not qualify as part of "night 4", but this morning when she was ready for her nap at 7:30am, I was so stinking tired! So I decided to nap with her and...she napped for 2 hours!!! Which means I also napped for 2 hours! It was just the boost that I needed! And nice to cuddle with my baby girl, since I can't do that at night anymore.Yay!!
Numbers:
Total hours of nap time: 3 hours 15 minutes. This would have been perfect, if her last nap didn't end at 6:10pm
Total hours of night sleep: 7 hours 40 minuts. Not very good. This is because of her 9pm bedtime & probably why she napped so well this morning.
Grand total sleep: 11 hours - still 3 hours short. This needs to improve or she's going to start getting cranky!
