Mother/Daughter work day

Workin' nine to five
What a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by
It's all takin' and no givin'
They just use your mind
And they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you
Crazy if you let it

Abby Jean turned 8 months old yesterday. Where does the time go? I mean seriously! Where did it go? Anyway, what better way to celebrate than to bring her to work with me? Ok - so we didn't work 9 to 5, but we did work from 7 to 2. Abigail has a cold - green snot coming out in buckets, eyes watering, drool pouring - it's just pathetic! So, I couldn't handle sending her off to daycare yesterday. Most of the time I do ok going to work everyday & I know she is well taken care of at daycare. But when she's not feeling well? It's really really hard on me (I know - she's the one who is sick, but it's hard on me too). It makes me very depressed when she's sick & I can't be there to take care of her. So, I took advantage of an extremely understanding & flexible work situation & took her in with me yesterday.

It was quite the adventure. She requires so much stuff now! I have to keep her entertained, feed her more than just milk, not to mention teething tablets, snot rags, etc. But, I got it all organized into the diaper bag & a portable bin. I just put her in the carrier & put the bin in the stroller, and it was pretty easy to get her to my office. Of course, with the distraction of having the baby with me, I left my keys in my car!! Got all the way to my office door & realized I couldn't get in! So we had to walk back to the parking garage & luckily my car hadn't locked itself before we got there. Phew!

She's such a good baby!! She slept on the ride from home to the office. Then she was in a really good mood for about 2 hours. My boss was impressed! Then I nursed her, she played a little while longer, and finally got sleepy. She slept in her stroller for 1.5 hours! I thought that was pretty darn good considering it was a new environment for her.

Once she woke up, I took her with me to the Rock 'N Roll marathon expo to pick up my race stuff. She was a big hit! And so many people were so surprised that I had an 8 month old & was "already" running a 1/2 marathon. I don't get it - what's the big deal? I know 2 pregnant women who are running this race. It's not like I'm running with her strapped to my back! haha. Now THAT would be impressive! Anyway, after the expo, we stopped & got a sandwich & then back to the office. At that point she played a little more & then started to get a bit cranky. So I finished up my work for the day & we headed home early. She slept on the way home & then since she wasn't done with her nap when we got home, we took a nap together - ahhhh! I LOVED that! :)

Office greeter - in her PJ's ofcourse!

So even though yesterday was pretty successful, I don't think I'll be taking Abigail to work with me again. At least not until she's like 10 & can entertain herself. Wow! She was into EVERYthing! I brought a big blanket for her to play on, she would not stay on the blanket for more than 60 seconds! It was a new environment & Abby wanted to explore! Too bad it's an office & there are file cabinets & sharp corners everywhere! Not to mention a hard floor. And then, when she would get a little fussy or bored, I tried holding her in my lap at my desk. At that point she started banging on my keyboard & grabbing all my paperwork & trying to eat it. She actually somehow installed something on my computer & I now have a "pc tools" logo in my internet toolbar. Terrific! haha!

Abigail "working" at my desk - doesn't she look so serious? She was working hard -
installing "PC Tools" on my computer - thanks baby genius!

So yeah, things have drastically changed since the last time I took her to work with me - which I realized was 3 months ago! I really have no idea where the time goes! I did take her to the doctor last night. I called the nurse to ask a question & she said "oh if she has green snot, we'd like to see her". So we went in & the doctor confirmed "yes, she has a cold." Thanks & here's your $20. She got super fussy in the evening last night, so again we put her to bed a little early & gave her some ibuprofen. She slept GREAT! She didn't wake up or move all night! I actually went in her room this morning at 5am to make sure she was still breathing! Poor baby woke up coughing her head off :( At least she slept well & She was sleeping again when B dropped her off at daycare this morning. Hopefully she's getting lots of rest so her body can fight off this nasty cold!

I'm praying she sleeps just as well tonight so that I can get plenty of rest before my race tomorrow! I'm SO very excited!!!!!!

  1. Abigail is so cute! Sounds like she was a very good girl at work - as good as you can expect a curious 8 month old to be, anyway! :)

I think people are impressed by you running the half marathon because most of us slobs couldn't even run a half marathon WITHOUT a baby ... hehe :). I admire you! I can't even muster up enough energy to WANT to run a half marathon. I hate running to the bus stop (of course, I could probably remedy that by leaving on time occasionally).

I hope the poor thing starts feeling better soon. You know, I think colds are hardest on the parents. Babies kinda muddle through somehow ... but watching them feel sick and not being able to do anything about it - it's heartbreaking!
